Lludwik’s Labyrinth

My game does not have enough event sleeves!

  • It should! You will have enough sleeves to go ahead and sleeve all the event cards from the campaign, EXCEPT you are not meant to sleeve the tutorial events in this way. To do this, you can use the sleeving instructions in the bullet below.

If you are still in doubt about your sleeve count, you can also confirm that it has the same number of sleeves as indicated in the component manifest in the rulebook. You should have 15 Tier 0, 50 Tier I, 30 Tier II, and 10 Tier III.
  • Can I sleeve all the event cards right away?

  • Yes. The sleeves included in Lludwik’s Labyrinth provide enough sleeves to sleeve all of the event cards (aside from the events from the tutorial, which do not require these sleeves).

To do this, any event cards which share the same name, are sleeved together in one sleeve, with the A side exposed in the sleeve packet. If you are sleeving these right away, be sure to return the events to their numbered positions in the sideboard, so that you can easily locate them later if they are called for by a scenario.
  • I cannot find a component! (Rockfall tokens, Sunshield & Shards, or others)

  • On page 70 of the Campaign Book, you will find a complete manifest of all the components in your game. This includes some spoilers, as it will reveal any components which are hidden in envelopes. Please check this page to confirm your missing assets are not simply hidden in an envelope, before contacting our customer service team.
  • Marinara Monstrosity Typo

  • The Marinara Monstrosity is a Boss Minion which is unlocked by a side quest during the Lludwik’s Labyrinth campaign. The card has a typo on it which is that it only awards 1 Bounty if defeated. It should in fact award 3 Bounty like all the other Boss Minions.
  • Antagonist’s Arsenal

I have 42 Black Artifice Cards by the rulebook says I should have 45.

  • You are not missing any. 42 is the correct amount of Black Artifice Spells for Antagonist’s Arsenal. 45 was written as a typo in the rulebook, unfortunately.
  • General Questions

What are some tips to help the Heroes beat that Evil Wizard?

  • – Finding Shrines should be a lower priority than keeping the Minions at bay
    – Scout slowly, and only if you are not already overwhelmed with Minions
    – Avoid Scouting if the round is about to end (as those Minions will get used by Mordak)
    – In a game with few heroes, consider avoiding support characters (such as Amos or Wugner)
    – Remember, dieing is sometimes ok! Avoid spending your Turn healing at Hawkemoor. It is not an efficient use of actions, if those actions could be spent knocking out Minions!
    – Recognize certain Spells are very useful, and save them for when it matters (Potion of Haste, Smoke Bomb, Unstable Mana, or a good AOE Spell like Flame Ray can all get you out of a bind!)
    – Do everything you can to avoid walking into the Final Battle with a board full of Minions! (it may mean not Scouting at all in the Round before the Final Battle.)
  • Make sure you have your game set up correctly!

  • – In games with 1 Hero, that Hero starts with the Clyde the Horse treasure.
    – In games with 1-2 Heroes, the Map setup is different and smaller.
    – Make sure you are using the Hero AND Villain loot stash for your HERO COUNT (not player count). IE in a game with 2 Hero’s plus Mordak, use the 2-Hero Hero Stash, and the 1-2 Hero Villain Stash.
  • Yeah. You say that… But its still to hard! – Try out “Easy Mode” –

  • – In the Lludwik’s Labyrinth and Antagonist’s Arsenal expansions there is an Easy Mode.
    – To play this mode using Minions of Mordak, do as follows:
    – Minion costs go up from 3/5/8 to 4/6/10 (you can print up these new cards here)
    – On set up, replace the last yellow dice on each of Mordak’s rows with a white dice icon instead.
  • What Happens if a Hero is Defeated during their Turn?

  • If a Hero is Defeated during the Hero Round, their Turn ends and they go to the Villain Loot Stash. While a Hero is Defeated, they cannnot use Spells or Abilities or PlusOnes or Equip / Unequip Treasures. Since drawing Spells is one of the Hero’s abilities, they would not be able to do this while Defeated. They can gain and spend XP normally. They will remain in the Stash until either the next Villain Level Up Step resolves, or their Turn comes up (whichever comes first).
  • Can you ever roll more than the dice provided in the game?

  • Yes. You can gain 5 dice on your Hero board, and a 6th (and potentially more!) by using Spells and / or Treasures. If you run out of dice, roll the ones you have, remember the result, then roll them again as needed.
  • Can Treasures allow you to get more than 5 Actions?

  • Yes. Your Action bar indicates the number of Action Points your Hero has each Turn. Bonus Actions from Treasures are kept track of separately from this, and can potentially push you to 6 Actions.
  • Why do Minions have a “Starred” Power Action?

  • The Power Actions found on the Minion cards will be used in future expansions for the game. In Minions of Mordak, Starred Power Actions on Minions has no additional affect. (Though on Heroes it indicates where to place their starting Plus-One token).
  • When a Minion Ambushes, does it have to attack the Scouting Hero?

  • No. An Ambushing Minion simply gets a normal bonus Turn in the middle of the Scouting Hero’s Turn. The Villain can use the Minion’s actions however their like.
  • Does the Villain get to act with Minions on the bottom of a stack?

  • During the Minion Step, the Villain will act with every Minion currently on the Map in an order of their choosing. This means they can pick any Minion to act with (regardless of their position in a stack) until each Minion has acted once. While a Minion is carrying out its actions, it is moved to the top of any stack it is a part of.
  • Do equipped Treasures also award Bounty for Level Ups?

  • During the Hero Level Up Step, Heroes may equip and trade treasures amongst each other. After they are finished those Treasures which are left in the Stash (IE not equipped to Heroes) *must* be cashed out for Bounty. (They cannot remain in the stash for the future.) You *can* equip and wield a Treasure for a few Turns, and eventually return it to the stash and cash it in once you find a better Treasure.
  • Can spells which target things “On the Map” target Mordak?

  • Not until he is on the Map. “On the Map” is there intentionally, so that the Spell cannot be used on Mordak (until the final battle). Notably, the Luck tonic in the purple deck does not have this wording intentionally. So Mordak can use his luck tonic on himself as well.
  • Can Extra dice from Treasures be Leveled Up?

  • No. Bonus dice from Treasures are not marked on your board, they represent a separate dice which cannot be levelled up. So you could potentially have 6 dice if you had fully leveled up a row and also had a treasure dice.
  • How does Dodge work exactly?

  • As soon as a Character with Dodge is selected as the target of an attack, they roll the Dodge dice indicated by the ability. They will prevent incoming damage equal to the number they rolled. The attacker is allowed to opt not to assign any hits to damage them after seeing the result of their Dodge roll, however they cannot choose a new target for their attack.
    – A damage Spell only selects its target once it has been paid for and cast, therefor if the result of the Dodge would cause the Spell to be ineffective, it fizzles.
    – AOE attacks -target- everyone on the attacked tile, so they will still trigger a Dodge Roll.
    – You cannot Dodge effects which “pay health” as this is different than “damage” and pay Health cannot be prevented.
  • Component Questions

If I want to sleeve, what Sleeve Sizes do I need?

  • See Rulebook page 1:
    75x Full Size – 57.5mm x 89mm
    155x Mini cards – 41mm x 63mm
For best fit we recommend Mayday Games 100 packs.
  • If I own the Deluxe game, where do I store Chesty Laroo?

  • We made a call during production that Chesty Laroo would be stored separately. It is a very fun bonus component which we were excited to include, but ultimately storing it within the box would have caused overcrowding issues. We tried to keep backers aware of this during several of our mid-production updates. You can store it separately, or opt not to glue this component and instead store it back within its punchboard below your insert, if you prefer.
  • Final Battle

Does Mordak regain Health for Defeating Heroes in the Final Battle?

  • No. The intent of the Final Battle is as follows:
“During the Final Battle Characters and Treasures in Loot Stashes will no longer award Bounty (coins) when cashed out (instead, all that is earned is 1 Soul token per Defeated Hero for the Villain, or Nothing for Defeated Minions / cashed in Treasure.”
  • Do I still draw Spells in the Final Battle Level Up Steps?

  • Yes. During the Final Battle, Level Up Steps still resolve as normal, with only 1 exception:
    – Cashed out Treasures & Minions in the Stash DO NOT award Bounty (coins) rewards.
    – Cashed out Heroes in the Stash earn the Villain 1 Soul token INSTEAD OF awarding any Bounty (coins) rewards.
  • When a Hero is Defeated in the Final Battle, do they respawn?

  • Yes. Heroes Defeated in the Final Battle are placed in the Villain Loot Stash. Then at the end of the next Villain Level Up Step (or if that Hero’s Turn would come up before then) the Hero is placed on the Ruins of the Throne tile with full Health, and the Villain gains 1 Soul Token.
  • Heroes

    Gwenavael the Ranger
Can Gust Van Sant perform Power Surges or gain Plus-One’s?

  • No. Gust is considered a Minion controlled by the Heroes. Like a Minion, Gust cannot cannot gain or use Spells, or Plus-One tokens. Remember though, when Minions are controlled by a Hero (See Looting P.8), they are allowed to Scout & Loot like a Hero would.
  • If Gwenavael is Defeated on her own Turn, does the utility horse still spawn?

  • Yes. When she is Defeated, that is the moment her Turn ends. And then the utility horse will trigger and Gust will spawn on the tile where she was when she was Defeated.
  • Can Gust get attacked? How much Health does he have?

  • Gust has infinite health. If he is somehow attacked while he is on the Map (IE an Ambush), he can become a Defender like any Character, and potentially halt an attack against the heroes, since he cannot be harmed himself.
  • Mari the Paladin
    What is a Purple Minion?

  • Every Minion card’s title is either set on a purple or a green colored scroll. This is what Mari’s ability refers to. All Goblins and Bonemen are purple. All Dwarves and Elves are green. So it is split about 50/50.
  • Wugner the Bard
Can Inspirational Beats add to any type of Action Roll?

  • Yes. Wugner can spend a +1 from his Magic to use Inspirational Beats, which adds a Bonus +1 to anyone’s Action Roll (Melee, Ranged, Magic, or Corruption). This differs from Mordak’s Schemy Meddling, which simply allows Mordak to Spend his +1’s during other’s Action Rolls. In Mordak’s case he must still honor restrictions for +1’s, so he can spend Melee +1’s on a Minion’s Melee, for example, or Ranged / Ranged.
  • Can Inspirational Beats add to Wugner’s own Action rolls?

  • Yes. Inspirational beats can add to anyone’s action roll. So Wugner could use a Magic Plus-One to add to his Ranged rolls, for example.
  • Mordak the Evil Wizard
How does Mordak’s ‘Schemy Meddling’ work?

  • Schemy Meddling allows Mordak to spend +1’s during any other Character Action rolls, as though they were his own (adding +1 to their result). He must otherwise obey the normal restrictions for spending Plus-Ones, meaning he could use this to spend a Melee Plus-One to add 1 to a Minion’s Melee Roll, for example, but he could not use Plus-Ones from melee to add to a ranged roll.
  • Blue Spells

    Lightning Surge
How does the ‘Max 12’ work?

  • Lightning Surge ‘Max of 12’ refers to how much damage the Spell can deal. So the most you can get is 10 from your yellow dice plus 2 from the Spell’s base damage.
  • When would Alyndras Pyromaniac Bonus apply with this Spell?

  • Alyndra’s Pyromaniac damage bonus for Spells applies after this max, so her Lightning Surge could deal 13 (or 14 if she has trained at the dojo)
  • Flame Ray
What is a straight line? Orthogonal, diagonal, oblique angles?

  • Orthogonal. In other words, starting with your tile, choose 1 of the 4 tiles next to yours and draw the line straight in that direction.
  • Summon Illusion
    Where does the Minion “Spawn”?

  • The Minion Spawns in the same way Mordak does (As defined under Corruption, rulebook P.7).
    – Place the Minion in any revealed Region adjacent to a face-down Region or along a map edge.
    – Control the Minion
    – Destroy the Minion (Placing it straight in the discard pile, awarding no Bounty for anyone)
  • Power Miasma
Do we add +2 damage for each +1 token spent?

Can the same Player spend more than 1 Plus-One token to add more than 2 damage?

  • Yes. Any player may spend any amount of +1’s, then add +2 damage for each +1 spent.
  • Polymorph
When is the Sheep considered “available” via the wording “if available”?

  • If the sheep is in the Chump Minion Draw deck, or the Chump Minion discard pile, it is available, and will be spawned after Polymorph defeats its target. If it is in the Loot Stash, or on the Map, then it is unavailable, and nothing will get Spawned instead.

The Sheep is always a Minion controlled by Mordak, regardless of when or who summoned it. (except of course if a hero used Summon Illusion to create it)

  • Yellow Spells

    Blood Bound
How does Amos’ Healer’s Boon Ability work with this?

  • After each time the Blood Bound Minion causes damage to others, Amos gains +1 Heart for each damage dealt, plus a further +1 Heart (or +2 Heart’s if Trained) thanks to Healer’s Boon.

E.g., If a Minion made a Melee Attack dealing 4 damage, Amos would gain +5 Heart (4+1). Then if the Minion made a Ranged Attack dealing 3 damage, Amos would gain +4 Heart’s (3+1). (If Amos were Trained, he would instead gain +6 Heart’s and +5 Heart’s respectively).

  • Vial of Dire Need
How is this Spell effected by the AOE rule?

  • Vial of Dire need is used right as someone would take damage. The original target does their dodge, or any other prevention means they have, and then the caster moves onto their region and takes that exact amount of damage instead. The caster cannot use further means of preventing this damage.

In the case of an AOE attack, the attack could harm a number of heroes in a tile. The caster could use this spell to fly in and take the damage instead of one of those heroes, though they could not prevent the whole attack, and any other heroes would still take damage as normal. The spell triggers after the attack has found its targets but right before damage is actually taken, so the newly added casting hero would not become victim to further AOE damage by standing in the tile being hit, they will only take the damage for the character they are casting on.

In any case the caster becomes the defender there for the remainder of the round.

  • Gentleman’s Duel
If you chose a Hero as one Character, can they use a +1 to add to their roll?

  • No you cannot. In this case the Spell specifies that you roll your base dice (which means the dice on your board, excluding item bonuses), and the higher roller wins. Plus ones specify that they can be used during *Action Rolls* to add 1 to the result. This is not an Action Roll, it is a special roll instigated by this Spell, so plus ones cannot be used.
  • What happens on a tie?

  • This Spell states “the higher roller deals their Hits as damage to the other”, so if there is no higher roller, then neither party can deal damage and the Spell is ineffective.
  • Can the targets be in different Map Locations?

  • Yes. Anywhere on the Map means they could be in 2 different locations. It also does not matter if they are Defender or not, or who they are controlled by, you may choose any 2 characters. Think of it as an astrally conjured cage match between the two Characters.
  • Can the targets use Dodge to prevent damage from this?

  • Yes. You would roll each character’s base Melee dice, then the higher roller will deal damage to the lower roller. At this point the lower roller has been “targeted by an attack”, and Dodge may trigger to prevent some of the damage being dealt.
  • Ultimate Price / Mana Burn
How does “cancelling” a Spell work?

  • Ultimate Price & Mana Burn both have effects which “cancel a Spell and refund its cost”. In this case the cost refers to the top right number/icon on the Spell card specifically. For example if a Spell is cancelled during a Magic Roll, you’d get back the hits you spend and discard that Spell, but your Magic Roll is still in progress, so you could use those Hits to cast a different Spell, or buy Plus-One’s. (You do not get back any Action Points from this effect)
  • Purple Spells

    Power Leach
    How does this Spell work?

  • Opposing Players will take 1 Yellow Die/ 1 Red Die damage for each +1 they have, BUT they may first choose to discard any of their +1 tokens to avoid taking some (or all) of the damage. Each player essentially gets to choose between losing health, +1 tokens, or perhaps a combination of the two.
  • Transmute
When the villain uses this Spell, does the transmuted minion get to act the same turn?

  • Yes it does. A Minion is exchanged for 1 size larger by Transmute, and will get to act right away after the Spell resolves.
  • If the original Minion was Wounded, is the Transmuted Minion Wounded?

  • No, the transmuted minion gets to spawn at full health, which is a nice advantage to this Spell.
  • Can I Transmute a Sheep Token into a Chump Minion?

  • Yes you can. A Sheep token is considered to be a Minion 1 Size Smaller than a Chump Minion. And transmute lets you swap it for a Minion 1 size larger (so that would make it into a Chump Minion).
  • Eruption / Invisibility Balm / Whirlpool Elixir / Dread Cramps / Love Potion
Can these Spells trigger at any point during a Characters 3 moves?
Or only on the last step when they reach their destination?

  • When a Character makes a Move action, they technically resolve each step of that action 1 at a time, and any of the above named spells could potentially trigger. So if the first of 3 moves crossed over a Lake, Whirlpool Elixir could be cast. Likewise, Dread Cramps would trigger each time their figure moves into a new region (so 3 times separately if they moved across 3 tiles).
  • Magnetic Dynamo
Can I collect the 3 Treasures from different Heroes?
Can I place them in different Regions?

  • You can take them from any of the player-S- (multiple), and then place them in any revealed Region (singular). So the intent is you can grab from multiple different heroes, but then they all get placed in the same Region.
  • Shifting Sands
It states that this Spell moves “cards” does it also move Heroes?

  • And using the word “card” here was perhaps not clear. The intent is “exchange the tile’s position, along with everything on the tiles.” This would include Heroes & Minions.
  • Can it target the starting tiles and move those as well?

  • Yes, you can move starting tiles (including Hawkemoor).
  • Treasures

Helm of Apologies / Matey’s Spyglass
By “Ambush has no effect during your Scout Actions” do Minions with the Ambush icon still spawn?

  • Yes, they spawn as normal, but you may ignore the Ambush icon during your Scout Action, so they will not interrupt you by Ambushing you.
  • Sands of Time
Does it give you +1 Action for the rest of the game or only for the current turn?

  • It gives you +1 Action Point for the Turn, and you may use that Action (if you wish) to perform any one of your action types a second time this Turn.
  • Vampiric Shield
“Any time your Dodge succeeds, you may also heal for +1 Heart”, what does ‘succeed’ mean?

  • A Dodge succeeds if the Dodge roll scores 1 or more hits.
  • Dwarf War Skillet
Can I pay 8 Hearts potentially, to gain +8 Health?

  • No. In this case it specifically states “you may spend 4 hits during a Melee attack to gain 4 Heart’s” so you cannot spend 8 to gain 8. In future wordings on the card, it will say this “Once per Melee attack, spend 4 Hits to gain +4 Heart’s”
  • Mordak’s Astringent
Can you use this to swap a Chump Minion for a Sheep token?

  • Yes, you could swap a Chump minion for Sheep token. “Sheep tokens are considered to be one size smaller than Chump Minions”.
  • Spell Book / Spell Scroll
Do the Spells drawn from these items stack with the Spells a Hero may already draw naturally?

  • Yes. Spell Book / Scroll is it’s own ability allowing the bearer to draw 2 / 1 Spells. This stacks with any other ability for drawing Spells. The Spells must be from your normally allowed Spell decks (though they can be a combination of colors).
